RECOMMENDATION
Ratify the acceptance of a grant award from the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for funding of the Nueces County Public Safety Enhancements Project.
BACKGROUND
The Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Governor’s Office is soliciting competitive applications for projects that reduce crime and improve the criminal justice system during the state fiscal year 2015 grant cycle. Federal funds are authorized under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG).

On September 4, 2013, the Commissioners Court accepted a grant award under this CJD program for the Public Safety Project in the amount of $44,718. The project included the Constables' Offices Precincts 1 through 4, the Juvenile Department, and the Public Works Environmental Enforcement Division. The grant covered equipment and technology needs of these departments.

On October 8, 2014, the Commissioners Court accepted a second grant award under this program in the amount of $37,235.50. The project was for the following County departments: Public Works Environmental Enforcement Division, Juvenile Department, Sheriff’s Office, Constable’s Office Precinct 1, and Precinct 3. The award was used to fulfill equipment needs such as camera recording systems, patrol cameras, body cameras, and radars.
DISCUSSION
On February 24, 2016, the Commissioners Court executed a resolution for a grant application to be prepared on behalf of the Juvenile Department and Constable’s Office Precinct 2. The application included equipment needs such as camera recording systems for the juvenile detention and boot camp areas, officer equipment and training.

The total grant award is $20,535.30 and there is no match required.
