Discuss and consider acceptance of a grant from the Governor's Criminal Justice Division for the Nueces County Public Safety Project.
The Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Governor’s Office is soliciting competitive applications for projects that reduce crime and improve the criminal justice system during the state fiscal year 2014 grant cycle. Federal funds are authorized under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG).
On February 13, 2013, the Commissioners Court authorized the submission of a grant application to the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for funding of the Nueces County Enrichments for Criminal Justice Project.
The application was prepared on behalf of Constable’s Offices Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 as well as the Juvenile Department and Public Works. The project includes the purchase of equipment such as radar units, bulletproof vests, mobile data terminals, drug kits, and electronic monitors.
The grant award totals $44,718 and there is no match required. The grant period will begin on October 1, 2013 and expires on March 31, 2014.
