DSHS Vector Control Grant Application

Approve the submission of a grant application to the Texas Department of State Health Services' Cooperative Agreement for Emergency Response: 2017 Hurricane Public Health Crisis Response for traditional vector control.
The Department of State Health Services has announced the availability of funds for a 2nd Call-out for the “Cooperative Agreement for Emergency Response: 2017 Hurricane Public Health Crisis Response” for local health departments (LHDs) and other eligible local governmental entities. This is dedicated to funding local public health activities with a strong link to hurricane recovery and/or preparedness activities. The funds are targeted to jurisdictions within the 2017 Governor’s 60 county Hurricane Harvey disaster declaration. The funding opportunity is open to current contractors, as well as new eligible applicants within the 60 disaster declared counties.
On January 23, 2019, the Commissioners Court accepted a grant award from
the Texas Department of State Health Services under the Hurricane Crisis Cooperative funding opportunity for traditional vector control. The award totaled $105,724 and is being used to purchase foggers, mosquito traps, larvacide, and other supplies.
Public Works identified the further need for two Buffalo Turbine Sprayers for larval control and additional supplies. An application is being prepared in the amount of approximately $100,000. The application is due July 12,
2019. There is no cash match required.
