BACKGROUND
The Nueces County Tax Assessor-Collector is required to enter into a contractual agreement with all taxing units for which the county collects and distributes taxes. There are several units we were unable to locate contracts for, and found several units had provisions in their contracts that were not consistent with current Property Tax Code regulations. In addition, most contracts needed to be updated and distributed to all the taxing entities in mid-August.

There are a few more units needing to be ratified, however they will be submitted in a separate agenda item as they are received. The current contracts do not include major changes in collection processing, but the Tax Advisory Council was eliminated as there is no provision in the property tax code for it and current reporting to the taxing units occurs on a monthly basis. The current contract reflects collection processes in place as dictated by the Texas Property Tax Code.
DISCUSSION
Fiscal Impact:
None. Collections expenses remain offset by the annual per-parcel budget, which by contract is completed and sent out by August 15 per contract.
