CBBEP Interpretive Signage Proposal
Submitted By: Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Department: Grants Department

Ratify authorizing submission of a project proposal to the Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (CBBEP) for consideration of grant funding for the Interpretive Signage for Plover and Skimmer Habitation Protection project.
The Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (CBBEP) is a local non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to researching, restoring and protecting the bays and estuaries of the Texas Coastal Bend. The mission of the CBBEP is the implementation of the Coastal Bend Bays Plan, which is to protect and restore the health and productivity of the bays and estuaries while supporting continued economic growth and public use of the bays. The plan identifies specific actions that will benefit the bay system and the users of the bays and includes projects for which CBBEP provides grant funding.
The proposed Interpretive Signage for Plover and Skimmer Habitation Protection project will protect habitat to Texas shore and sea birds, with a primary focus on snowy and piping plover habitat, red knot habitat and black skimmer habitat, using interpretative signage to educate the public about the importance and sensitivity of roosting and nesting sites along Nueces County Coastal Park beaches. This project proposal will be submitted to CBBEP for their consideration for grant funding in the amount of $6,140 and does not require a cash match from the County, however, it does include $340 in-kind labor and equipment.  If awarded, a grant agreement will be submitted for the Court’s approval and acceptance upon receipt.
