DA Office Operation Trail Boss Grant Application

Adopt a resolution authorizing the submission of an application to the Office of the Governor, Homeland Security Grants Division for the Operation Trail Boss project.
The Homeland Security Grants Division of the Governor’s Office is soliciting applications for projects that provide prosecution resources to District and County Attorneys along the Texas-Mexico border and for counties that are significantly affected by border crime.
The District Attorney’s Office prepared an application for a project titled Operation Trail Boss. This project has two objectives: 1.) To provide overtime to existing staff while identifying and segregating files containing known gang members, criminal enterprises with a groups of 6 or more co-defendants, or multiple smaller criminal enterprises working together. Cases involving murder, car theft, cargo theft or trafficking of any kind will also be segregated, screened for data, and processed expeditiously; and 2.) To create a 6 person surge team to analyze, investigate and engage gang and/or organized crime as well as provide over-watch for potential terrorist activities. These objectives will create more local intelligence to be shared with other law enforcement entities while providing security to our community takes while gathering intelligence to disrupt the crimes listed above. Nueces County District Attorney’s Office is requesting $342,285.00 to fund this project. There is no cash match required for this program.
