Commissioners Court - Regular
Resolution Nueces County Body-Worn Camera Program
Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Adopt a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for funding for the Nueces County Body-Worn Camera Program.
The goal of the Criminal Justice Division is to provide needed funding to improve public safety and support victims of crime by addressing system gaps and promoting innovative solutions to common problems. CJD is accepting applications for the purchase of body cameras and digital storage systems to serve as a tool in a law enforcement comprehensive problem-solving approach to enhance officer interactions with the public, build community trust, and gather important evidence for use in the prosecution of crimes.
On August 3, 2016, the Commissioners Court accepted a grant award for the purchase of 54 body cameras and associated video storage and equipment.
The Governor’s Office is offering additional funding for any first-line officers that may have been missed in the first round of funding. So far, Constable Pct. 2 is the only department to respond to the e-mail sent out by Grants Administration to all County law enforcement departments.
An application is currently being prepared. If no other departments show interest, the estimated budget will be $9,000 with the state share at $7,200 and a required 20% match from the County of $1,800.
