RECOMMENDATION
Discuss and consider the submission of an application to the Texas Historical Commission for the Certified Local Government (CLG) grant program.
BACKGROUND
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) Certified Local Government (CLG) grants provide funding to participating city and county governments to develop and sustain an effective local preservation program critical to preserving local historic resources. This grant program is made possible through funding THC receives from the U.S. Department of Interior, National Park Service Historic Preservation Fund Program.
DISCUSSION
Old Bayview Cemetery is the oldest federal military cemetery in Texas and has been designated a State Archaeological Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission. The proposed project would be for the development of a master plan to aid the Nueces County Historical Commission in determining accurate burial placement. A master plan would also help enhance the Commission in its application to be on the National Register of Historical Places. We anticipate the cost of the above work to fall between $20,000 to $25,000.
