RECOMMENDATION
Ratify the acceptance of a set-aside grant award for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program Phase 34 made available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
BACKGROUND
The Federal Emergency Management Agency awards federal funds to counties throughout the country for the Emergency Food and Shelter National Program. United Way of the Coastal Bend serves as the administrative organization for the local board and requested that the Nueces County Department of Social Services submit an application for Phase 34 funding.
DISCUSSION
On July 26, 2017, Commissioners Court accepted a grant award on behalf of the Department of Social Services to offer services that fall under the program guidelines. Funds are provided to supplement and expand ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food and supportive services for the hungry, homeless and people in economic crisis. Nueces County was awarded $16,287 with no match required.

On September 7, 2017, the County was notified that there was an additional $3,576 available in set-aside funds specifically for our project. This makes the grant award increase to a total of $19,863. There is no cash match required for this grant.
