Jail Annex Generator Grant Award
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Discuss and consider the execution of a grant award from the Texas Department of Emergency Management for the Nueces County Generator Project funded through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, Fall 2015 Floods, DR4245.
The President declared a major disaster for Texas as a result of damages incurred during the severe storms in October 2015 and winter storms and tornadoes in January 2016. The disasters were assigned the reference of FEMA-4245-DR and FEMA-4255-DR (respectively) and funding became available through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). The McKinzie Jail Annex currently has two emergency generators (250KW and 45KW). The generators provide for life safety functions as required by state law; however, they do not power all systems in the facility.
On August 3, 2016, the Commissioners Court ratified the submission of a grant application to the Texas Department of Emergency Management for the design, purchase, and installation of an emergency generator for the McKinzie Jail Annex. The grant award totals $1,250,750. The federal share would be $938,063 with a required match of $312,687. The period of performance is scheduled to end on May 9, 2019.
