Commissioners Court - Regular
Health District and CDC MOU
Dina Chavez, Health Department
Approve the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District (“CCNCPHD”) entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) and Scope of Work (“SOW”) with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the Department of Health and Human Services (“CDC”) to provide the CCNCPHD with field support that will enable the CCNCPHD to expand its ability to collect and report key data to the United States Zika Pregnancy Registry (USZPR) and the Zika Birth Defects Surveillance (ZBDS) systems administered by CDC, effective on the date of the last signatory to the agreement and shall end on August 21, 2018; and authorize the Director of the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District to sign on behalf of Nueces County.
The CDC has offered to provide the CCNCPHD with a nurse trained by CDC to assist with Zika data collection and disease surveillance by working with and providing information to local hospitals, physicians, laboratories, and medical facilities about the data they need to collect from patients and how to submit it.
The purpose of this MOU and SOW is to identify the activities each party will undertake to improve data collection and reporting to USZPR and ZBDS, as well as, identify areas of collaboration between CDC and CCNCPHD to ensure that these registries contain a complete, timely, and continuous national representation of pregnant women with the Zika virus and enable CDC to better direct public health action related to the Zika virus response. This partnership will also strengthen the ability of the CCNCPHD to use surveillance data to predict, plan, and prepare for referral to services for infants and families affected by Zika virus.
