RECOMMENDATION
Ratify the submission of a grant application to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for the FY2018 Special Projects Grant Program.
BACKGROUND
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission announced the new Special Projects Grants provide funds for programs that expand library services to all members of the library's community. Cooperation Grants provide funds for programs that promote cooperative services for learning and access to information.

On September 2, 2015, the Commissioners Court ratified the execution of a grant contract for the “Tech You’re It! @ the Library” program. The program targets lower income and at- risk youth 2 to 19 years of age. The program will create the Youth Learning Center (YLC) and the Youth Technology Center (YTC) to provide more access to computers and the Internet. The grant totaled $74,719 with no match required. The program began on September 1, 2015 and ended on August 31, 2016.

On September 14, 2016, the County received a second award under this program. “Tech You’re It! @ the Library 2.0” broadens the program goals to continue to provide access to Internet, online resources, information literacy, and technology to area youth with the additional goal of providing instruction and materials to increase proficiency in using technology not only in the library but out in the community and help the youth of our community become lifelong learners. A new key element is to be more mobile and easily take resources outside the library to offer programs anywhere in the community. The grant award totals $74,547 and there is no match required. The program began on September 1, 2016 and will end on August 31, 2017.
DISCUSSION
The Keach Family Library would like to apply for continued funding under this grant program. This year, the Library would like to add 15 iPads, more robotics, and STEM related devices to the program.

The application will total approximately $75,000 with no match required. Application is due on March 6th, prior to the next scheduled Commissioners Court.
