RECOMMENDATION
Discuss and award IFB No. 3034-17 ADA modifications to the Calderon Building.
BACKGROUND
Scope of work for this project consists of: remodel of existing multi-use County building. Work will include civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing demolition, metal stud and gypsum board interior walls, building batt insulation, suspended acoustic ceilings, gypsum board ceilings, vinyl composition flooring, porcelain tile flooring, painting, toilet partitions / accessories, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant signage; concrete walks, concrete ramps / handrails, concrete pavement for accessible parking spaces, HMAC paving repairs; HVAC systems modifications, plumbing systems modifications, and new plumbing fixtures, electrical systems and lighting system modifications and all other work required for the performance of the work described above and in the bid documents. Contractor shall also provide portable, temporary, fully ADA compliant restrooms during the renovation period of the existing public group restrooms. This temporary restroom facility(s) shall meet all Federal 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design requirements regarding access to, from and within these temporary restrooms and shall have conditioned air and exhaust. Number of temporary restroom facilities shall be as follows: Men’s: two (2) urinals of which one (1) urinal shall be ADA compliant, two (2) toilets of which one (1) toilet shall be ADA compliant, two (2) lavatories of which one (1) shall be ADA compliant. Women’s: four (4) toilets total of which one (1) toilet shall be ADA compliant, two (2) lavatories of which one (1) shall be ADA compliant. Please note, due to the nature of this critical Scope of Work mandated by the US Department of Justice for these Nueces County ADA Facilities Modifications, the following list of requirements shall be adhered to by the General Contractor: A. The Department of Justice has dictated that all final construction must meet these “2010 ADA Standards” as designed and specified within these plans and specifications without fail with “zero” tolerance for errors. B. Weekly inspections will be performed on these projects by Nueces County representatives or the Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) / Independent Licensed Architect (ILA). If non-compliance is determined during these inspections, the Contractor will be required to remove and reconstruct these areas to fully comply with the design indicated on these Construction Documents, at no cost to Nueces County. Nueces County does not provide project estimated cost, in order to receive the lowest & best bid for our taxpayers.
