Libraries and Literacy Grant Program Grant Award
Submitted By: Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Department: Grants Department

Discuss and consider the acceptance of a grant award from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for their Libraries and Literacy Grant Program in an amount not to exceed $4,000.
Through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) is working to enhance partnerships between local libraries and adult education and literacy (AEL) providers. As part of this project, TSLAC will make grants available to libraries to purchase computer equipment that will enable them to expand services to adults seeking to improve literacy skills, including digital literacy, English language acquisition, basic education, family literacy, high school equivalency, workplace skills and training, and more.
On January 9, 2017, a grant application was submitted on behalf of the Keach Family Library for a flatbed scanner. The scanner would be used to improve adult digital literacy services by providing training in how to use a scanner in a workplace environment. On January 13, 2017, TSLAC notified the County via e-mail that the application was approved and the County’s sub-award number is 481-17010. The County is authorized to purchase a flatbed scanner at a cost not to exceed $4,000. Any costs above that amount must be paid through another funding source. The reimbursement request is due no later than May 31, 2017.
