Commissioners Court - Regular
Libraries and Literacy Grant Program
Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Ratify the submission of a grant application to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for their Libraries and Literacy Grant Program.
Through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) is working to enhance partnerships between local libraries and adult education and literacy (AEL) providers. As part of this project, TSLAC will make grants available to libraries to purchase computer equipment that will enable them to expand services to adults seeking to improve literacy skills, including digital literacy, English language acquisition, basic education, family literacy, high school equivalency, workplace skills and training, and more.
On January 9, 2017, a grant application was submitted on behalf of the Keach Family Library for a flatbed scanner. The scanner would be used to improve adult digital literacy services by providing training in how to use a scanner in a workplace environment. The estimated cost for the scanner is $3,795.00.
