RECOMMENDATION
Discuss and consider transfer of a Senior Clerk position (Pay Group 13) from District Clerk's Office to Sheriff's Department for Jury Administration Department.
BACKGROUND
This item is in order to comply with Texas Government Code, Section 62.0111 in regards to implementing the jury online impaneling. The position is as an entry level Senior Clerk with an hourly pay rate of $11.88. In researching the legality of all the revisions made to the jury summons in preparation for the implementation of the online feature of the Jury Management System from Courthouse Technologies, the County Attorney determined that the Sheriff was the county official responsible for receiving and processing all the responses from jurors after they receive their jury summons. This person is responsible for all responses through the jury website, mail, and telephone system. The Nueces County Jury Plan, approved by the Commissioners Court, also contains the legal responsibilities of the Texas Government Code, Section 62.011, in regards to the Sheriff’s specific duties.
