Commissioners Court - Regular
Monitoring Offenders Against Women Time Extension
Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Ratify a no-cost time extension for the Monitoring Offenders Against Women Project, funded through a grant from the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division.
The goal of the Criminal Justice Division (CJD) is to provide needed funding to improve public safety and support victims of crime by filling system gaps and promoting innovative solutions to common problems. CJD is accepting applications for projects that promote a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to improving the criminal justice systems response to violent crimes against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.
On October 28, 2015, the Commissioners Court accepted an award for the Violence Against Women Formula grant. The grant project was for GPS monitors to be assigned to indigent defendants whom judges put on pretrial conditions of bond while they are awaiting trial. The grant award totaled $50,000 with no required cash match.
The original grant period was scheduled to end on March 31, 2016. This grant adjustment extends the grant period to June 30, 2016.
