CBBEP Grant Application for Phase I of a Habitat/Land Use Management Plan
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Discuss and consider submission of a grant application to the Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (CBBEP) for Phase I of a Habitat/Land Use Management Plan.
In December 2014, Nueces County executed a grant agreement with the Ed Rachal Foundation, for the purpose of purchasing 3,680.32 acres on North Padre Island, Kleberg County from the Texas General Land Office for use as a public recreation area and related operations cost.
The proposed project will be the first phase of a two-phased approach. The purpose of Phase I is to provide the County with a framework for managing the 3,680-acre tract of undeveloped Kleberg County land on Padre Island. The County seeks to provide quality public recreational opportunities on the new tract of land while protecting ecologically important natural resources known to occur there. The Phase I Habitat/Land Use Management Plan will identify protected natural resources located within the property and the County’s conservation goals for the property. The Plan will also include preliminary findings regarding potential recreational uses.
The application will be submitted to the Habitat and Living Resources Implementation Team of the Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program. The application is in the amount of $10,000 with no cash match required.
