Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Discuss and consider acceptance of a grant award from the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for funding for the Nueces County Drug/DWI Court.
The Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Governor’s Office is soliciting competitive applications for projects that support eligible drug court programs. The purpose of the Drug Court Program is to support drug courts that incorporate several characteristics such as treatment and rehabilitative services, identification and placement of eligible participants in the program, and monitoring through weekly alcohol/drug testing. Article 102.0178 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure establishes state funding for this purpose and designates CJD as the administering agency.
Nueces County has previously received funding through this grant opportunity for the past seven (7) consecutive years for a total of $387,160. The County has been successful in obtaining a slight increase in funding since the program’s inception.
On January 21, 2015, the Nueces County Commissioners Court authorized the submittal of an application for the FY2016 grant opportunity in order to continue use of the SCRAM units (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring) that were funded in the FY2010 - FY2015 grant awards. The grant application also included a request to continue and provide for additional funding for counseling and treatment services for the participants in the program as well as to cover the annual maintenance fees related to the TRI-CEP court software which was purchased with FY2010 grant funds and maintained with FY2011 - FY2015 funds.
The total grant award is $74,157.60 with no cash match required.
