2016 Local Border Security Program Grant Application
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Discuss and consider authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for the Local Border Security Program.
The Local Border Security Program FY2016 (LBSP-16) is funded to provide additional manpower by local law enforcement agencies for state led border security enhanced operations for improved border security. The state provides grants to local law enforcement agencies for payment of overtime and operational costs for local law enforcement officers (commissioned peace officers).
On February 26, 2014, the Commissioners Court executed a grant award for the FY2014 Local Border Security Program in the amount of $15,000. The grant application was prepared and submitted on behalf of Constable Precinct 5. On February 24, 2015, the Court accepted a second award for the FY2015 LBSP in the amount of $8,732.25 again for Constable Precinct 5.
The Constable Precinct 1 Office would like to apply for this new round of funding. The purpose of the project is to increase patrols and improve coordination among law enforcement agencies. NOTE: All law enforcement departments were invited via e-mail to apply for this funding opportunity; however, only a response from Constable Precinct 1 was received.
The grant application will total $11,500 and will cover overtime and mileage for project activities. There is no match required for this program.
