Hancher Library Grant Application
Submitted By: Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Department: Grants Department

Ratify the submission of a grant application to the Ladd and Katherine Hancher Library Foundation for the Keach Family Library.
The Ladd and Katherine Hancher Library Foundation will consider grant requests from Public Libraries serving populations of 50,000 or less. Projects are reviewed for the level of educational contribution to the community. Grants can range from $2,000.00 to $40,000.00.
The Nueces County Keach Family Library is proposing an early literacy project that will offer an opportunity for children to interact on fun and educational programs focused on a variety of multi-curricular areas. The grant request includes the purchase of specialized workstations, a complete educational computer for children ages 2-8. It is the premier all-in-one computer solution for young children in public libraries. It requires near-zero technical support.

Their participation on the workstations will provide them with school readiness skills, as well as remediation and enrichment. These workstations are intended for children of all learning styles: kinesthetic, auditory, tactile, and visual learners. Along with the children, parents will benefit because they will know that their child is learning critical literacy skills on a safe and non-web based workstation.

The grant request totals $27,800 and there is no match required. A funding decision is expected by September 1, 2015.
