Ratify the execution of the Statewide Automated Victim Notification System (SAVNS) Maintenance Grant Contract with the Office of the Attorney General in relation to automated victim notification services.
The Statewide Victim Notification System (SAVNS) is provided by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG). The purpose of SAVNS is to implement an automated method of providing victims of crime with access to information and notification about changes in offender status and court events twenty-four hours a day. Texas VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) provides crime victims with this information via a toll-free number and website. The system operates by networking status information from participating county and state contractors into a central database operated by a private vendor, which has been identified as Appriss.

The Texas Legislature allocates resources to the OAG to provide assistance in establishing contracts between county entities and the central database company, Appriss.

To accomplish the public purpose, the OAG will reimburse Nueces County for certain expenses incurred in the implementation and operation of the Texas program. The OAG’s reimbursement will cover the cost for Appriss to provide the services outlined in the SAVNS Maintenance Grant Contract between the OAG and Nueces County. Therefore, a contract must be executed with OAG and with Appriss. The Appriss contract will be brought to the Commissioners Court at a later date.

The grant amount totals $23,765.16 with no required match. The service period shall begin on September 1, 2014 and terminate on August 31, 2015.
