Mass Fatality Management Project
Submitted By: Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Department: Grants Department

Adopt a resolution authorizing submission of a grant application to the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for funding for the Nueces County Mass Fatality Management Project.
The Governor’s Criminal Justice Division (CJD) has several grant programs available. The County Essential Services Program provides financial assistance to counties for essential public services including law enforcement services, jail services, court services, or reimbursement of extraordinary costs incurred for the investigation or prosecution of a capital murder or crimes committed because of bias or prejudice.
On April 9, 2014, the Commissioners Court ratified the submission of a grant application to the Coastal Bend Council of Governments (COG) for a proposal titled “Mass Fatality Management.” The project was not funded through the COG; however, it garnered the attention of the CJD. The County was contacted by CJD and has been asked to submit an application under the County Essential Services Program.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office would like to purchase technology that will enhance their ability to collect and process latent palm and fingerprint data. This system will enhance their ability to collect and process latent palm and fingerprint data, and use that data to search local, state and federal databases for missing or unidentified persons, from the field, particularly in a mass fatality event.

This project totals $21,038.85 and if awarded, there will be no match required.
