FY15 Texas Library Impact Grant
Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Discuss and consider acceptance of a grant award from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for the FY2015 Impact Grant Program.
Earlier this year, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission announced the new Impact Grants for Library Innovation and Improvement program. The purpose of the grant is to encourage libraries to create or expand their programming and services in innovative ways that directly impact the lives of Texans. The grant provides seed funding for new library programming or services, or to improve existing programming and services that support best practices in the field.
There are three focus areas identified and applications will be accepted in these areas: skills for economic recovery; family and early childhood literacy; and electronic information technology. On September 18, 2013, the Commissioners Court accepted a $10,000 grant award under this program.
On March 19, 2014, the Commissioners Court ratified the submission of a grant application for the Keach Family Library’s application under the funding category for electronic information technology. The proposal included the purchase of “Peek-a-Book” stations for the children’s department. The Peek-a-Book station is a computer system that contains a touch screen interface, downloadable library, encyclopedia and dictionary challenges, and educational puppet skits that highlight math and letter skills.
The grant award totals $7,885 and there is no match required.
