Commissioners Court - Regular
Resolution for Mining/Drilling at LyondellBasell Park
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Discuss and consider the execution of a resolution restricting mining and surface drilling at LyondellBasell Park, as required by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
On October 2, 2013, the Commissioners Court accepted a grant award and executed related contract documents for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) – Local Land and Water Conservation Fund for Nueces County LyondellBasell Park (Project No. 48-001124). The purpose of the project is to create premier opportunities for outdoor recreation and educational outreach.
The awarded project improvements in this contract (which part of the overall LyondellBasell complex design) include, basketball ½ court, a children’s playground, a walking trail, workout stations, picnic tables with barbeque grills, xeriscape garden with benches, nature area with interpretive signage and drip irrigation, and adjoining walkways.
The grant award is $100,000 with a County 13.9 acre donation ($100,000 value) land match for a total project of $200,000.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department requires a resolution to be executed prior to proceeding with the project. The resolution states that the County will refrain from mining and surface drilling at LyondellBasell Park.
There is no fiscal impact related to this resolution.
