Ratify Reallocated FY12 SHSP Project Proposal
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Ratify the submission of a grant project proposal to the Coastal Bend Council of Governments for the reallocated FY12 State Homeland Security Program (SHSP).
The Department of Homeland Security under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers several grant opportunities under the umbrella of the Homeland Security Grant Program. One such opportunity is the State Homeland Security Program (SHSP). This core assistance program provides funds to build capabilities at the state and local levels and to implement the goals and objectives included in state homeland security strategies and initiatives dedicated towards law enforcement terrorism prevention-oriented planning, organization, training, exercise, and equipment activities, including those activities which support the development and operation of fusion centers.
The project’s title is the Nueces County Rural Fire & EMS Interoperability Project – Phase One. The purpose is to provide access to the consolidated public safety answering point for all Nueces County rural fire and EMS providers. The project will provide interoperability with responding law enforcement agencies and mutual aid departments already fully operating on the County radio system. Each of the departments will now be able to directly contact the County Emergency Operations Center through primary and back radio systems during major emergencies, ensuring continuity of operations and a coordinated disaster response/recovery effort.
The total amount requested in the grant application is $50,000.00. There is no match required.
