Grant application for Environmental Education Grant through EPA
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Discuss and consider submission of an application to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for an Environmental Education Grant.
Under the Enviromental Education program, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeks grant proposals from eligible applicants to support environmental education projects that promote environmental stewardship and help develop knowledgeable and responsible students, teachers, and citizens. This grant program provides financial support for projects that design, demonstrate, and/or disseminate environmental education practices, methods, or techniques, and that will serve as models that can be replicated in a variety of settings.
The Coastal Parks Department would like to submit an application for this program. The project's focus will be to reestablish Sea Oats along the dune complex within Nueces County. T he emphasis will be on the design/demonstrate methods or techniques that will serve as a model that can be replicated along the barrier islands and beachfront of Texas to assist in dune stabilization and re-vegetation which is critical in preventing erosion impacts for storm related incidents.
If funded, the County will partner with the City of Port Aransas and the Mission Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve. The Reserve's efforts will be primarily focused on the volunteer coordination and educational outreach with the project.
The application is currently being developed and is due on February 4, 2014. The application should total approximately $200,000 and there is no County match required.
