Bays and Estuaries Award Agreement for Wilson's Cut Phase II
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Discuss and consider authorizing execution of an Agreement with the Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program regarding funding for the Wilson's Cut Channel Boating Access Feasibility and Constraint Analysis Phase II.
The Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (CBBEP) is a local non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to researching, restoring and protecting the bays and estuaries of the Texas Coastal Bend. The mission of the CBBEP is the implementation of the Coastal Bend Bays Plan, which is to protect and restore the health and productivity of the bays and estuaries while supporting continued economic growth and public use of the bays. The plan identifies specific actions that will benefit the bay system and the users of the bays and includes projects for which CBBEP provides grant funding.
On December 14, 2011, Commissioners Court executed an agreement with the CBBEP for the Wilsons’ Cut Channel Boating Access Feasibility and Constraint Analysis. The purpose of the project was to perform a preliminary feasibility, routing and siting review including a constraint and opportunities assessment of the proposed new Wilsons’ Cut road access and boat launch. The project also involved development of a funding and permitting/coastal lease plan if the new Wilsons’ Cut channel is considered feasible. The grant award was $15,000 with no cash match required.
The CBBEP identified additional funds available for another phase of the project. Phase II will continue work in performing a preliminary jurisdictional determination and make any necessary adjustments to alternative routes identified in the plan conducted in Phase I.
The grant award is in the amount of $8,500 and there is no match required.
