RECOMMENDATION
Ratify the submission of a grant application to the Texas Homeland Security State Administrative Agency for FY 2014 Local Border Security Program.
BACKGROUND
The Local Border Security Program FY 2014 (LBSP-14) is funded to provide additional manpower by local law enforcement agencies for state led border security enhanced operations for improved border security. The Texas Homeland Security State Administrative Agency provides grants to local law enforcement agencies for payment of overtime and operational costs for local law enforcement officers (commissioned peace officers).
DISCUSSION
A grant application was prepared and submitted on behalf of Constable Precincts 1, 2, 3, and 5. The purpose of the project is to increase patrols and improve coordination among law enforcement agencies.  The Sheriff's Office declined to participate and Precinct 4 has not responded with their potential interest as of the date of this submission. 

There is no match required for this program. The exact funding request is not available at the time this agenda item is being submitted; however, it will be provided to the Commissioners Court on or before the Court date.  Attached to this agenda item is the draft grant application.
