4. B. 1.
Commissioners Court - Regular
Submission of Sea Grant for Tide Survey Project
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Ratify the submission of a grant application to the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Program for the Mustang and North Padre Island Tide Survey project.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Storms program in collaboration with the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Programs and the Gulf of Mexico Climate Community of Practice announced that they were seeking coastal communities to participate in climate adaptation projects that will serve as local examples for other Gulf communities. The purpose of the available funds is to assist communities in their effort to plan for sea level rise and climate change.
The City of Corpus Christi was the original applicant for this grant program; however, due to limited time constraints, the City declined to pursue the grant any further and the County was notified of the opportunity. The City sent their draft proposal and allowed the County to further develop that proposal into a full application. Mayor Nelda Martinez offered a letter of support for the project titled Assessing Sea Level Rise Through a Mustang and North Padre Island Mean High and Mean Low Tide Survey.
The County was notified of the grant opportunity on Thursday, November 7th and the deadline was the following day, Friday, November 8th. Therefore, there was not enough time to properly present this item to Commissioners Court prior to submission.
The total grant amount request totals $33,750 with no required cash match.
