Ratify 2012 SHSP Grant Award
Monica Reyes, Grants Department
Ratify the execution of a Sub-Recipient Grant Award for the Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) - FY 12 State Homeland Security Program (SHSP).
The Department of Homeland Security under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers several grant opportunities under the umbrella of the Homeland Security Grant Program. One such opportunity is the State Homeland Security Program (SHSP). This core assistance program provides funds to build capabilities at the state and local levels and to implement the goals and objectives included in state homeland security strategies and initiatives dedicated towards law enforcement terrorism prevention-oriented planning, organization, training, exercise, and equipment activities, including those activities which support the development and operation of fusion centers.
In 2008, Nueces County received a SHSP grant that was used for the installation of cameras and a surveillance recorder in the Courthouse. The project was originally submitted to include exterior cameras; however, the grant award did not provide enough funds for that portion of the project.
For the FY12 SHSP funding cycle, the application submitted was a Phase II of the above project. Phase II will complete the security enhancement project by purchasing and installing external surveillance cameras around the perimeter of the Nueces County Courthouse/County Jail complex to monitor and record activity near the buildings and in adjacent parking areas.
