Commissioners Court - Regular
Amendment #1 to Colonia Waterbird CIAP Project
Monica Reyes, Grants Department
Discuss and consider the acceptance of Amendment No. 1 to Grant No. F13AF00042 from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the Colonial Nesting Waterbird Enhancement Project as part of the Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) grant program.
The Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) is intended to assist coastal states and coastal political subdivisions within those states that have either supported or been impacted in some measure, directly or indirectly, from Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas exploration and development activities.
On November 27, 2012, the Commissioners Court accepted Grant #F13AF00042 from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the Colonial Nesting Waterbird Enhancement Project, part of the Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) grant program.
The goal of the Colonial Nesting Waterbird Enhancement project is to enhance and restore habitat, and manage and protect colonial waterbird populations within an existing island in Nueces Bay. The project will also increase public education, and monitor nesting success.
The total amount of the grant award is $165,154 and there is no match required. This project was included as part of the 2008 CIAP grant allocation projects. The grant period for the initial award ran from September 20, 2012 through December 31, 2014.
Amendment #1 allows the County additional time to complete the project since construction cannot disturb the birds’ nesting habits. Amendment #1 extends the grant period to December 31, 2015.
