Healthy Texas Babies - Contract Amendment
Dina Chavez, Health Department
Discuss and consider amendment to the contract between the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District and the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to reallocate funds for the Healthy Babies Initiative to reduce preterm births in Nueces County; authorize the Director of the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District to sign on behalf of Nueces County.
The 82nd Texas Legislature appropriated $2.4 million in General Revenue funds to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for Fiscal Years (FY) 2012-2013 to support evidence-based interventions led by up to 12 local coalitions in all regions of state. The goal of the Healthy Texas Babies (HTB) Initiative is to reduce preterm births in Texas by 8 percent over the biennium and subsequently reduce the state’s infant mortality rate. This amendment is to reallocate funds for the program.
The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District is in receipt of Contract No. 2012-040621 No. 001A with DSHS. Under the agreement, the Health District will work with a local coalition to implement or enhance an evidence-based intervention to reduce preterm birth and infant mortality in Texas. The Health District through the coalition shall use the Perinatal Periods of Risk (PPOR) approach to analyze infant mortality data in its county and to justify its proposed intervention. This amendment is to reallocate funds for the program.
