RECOMMENDATION
Discuss and consider acceptance of a grant award for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program Phase 30 made available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
BACKGROUND
The Federal Emergency Management Agency awards federal funds to counties throughout the country for the Emergency Food and Shelter National Program. United Way of the Coastal Bend serves as the administrative organization for the local board and is requesting for Nueces County Human Services to submit an application for the Phase 30 funding.
DISCUSSION
On January 2, 2013, Commissioners Court ratified the acceptance of a grant award on behalf of the Human Services Department to offer services that fall under the program guidelines. Funds are provided to supplement and expand ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food and supportive services for the hungry, homeless and people in economic crisis. Nueces County was awarded $15,451 with no match required.

On April 29, 2013, the County was notified that there was an additional $1,000 available in set-aside funds specifically for our project. This makes the grant award increase to a total of $16,451. There is no cash match required for this grant.
