Discuss and consider adopting a resolution supporting the extension of County Road 52 from County Road 69 to Farm to Market 1889, and related matters.
County Road 52 is an alternate traffic route used to ease the heavy congestion on Farm to Market 624. In January 2010 the City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County entered into an interlocal cooperative agreement whereby they jointly funded the widening and reconstruction of County Road 52 from U. S. Highway 77 to County Road 69. This project was recently completed at a cost which was well below the estimated project cost thus saving the County approximately $375,000.
A need exists for extending County Road 52 further from County Road 69 to Farm to Market 1889 so that a viable alternate relief route for Farm to Market 624 would be available. The City of Corpus Christi estimates that extension of County Road 52 all the way to Farm to Market 1889 will cost approximately $2,500,000. The County's cost share for the project would be $1,250,000 and $375,000 in funds previously designated for County Road 52 is available for this project. The County's cost share will be funded in each of three consecutive fiscal years beginning with 2012-2013 in an amount of $416,666.
