Discuss and consider authorizing execution of deed conveying to Del Mar College the taxing entities’ interest in real property, namely relating to Tax Account No. 1772-0000-0020; Lot 2 Copps Subdivision, a subdivision in the City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, according to the map or plat thereof, recorded in Volume 24, Page 51, Map Records of Nueces County, Texas; 1502 Tarlton Street, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Del Mar College is in the process of updating its facility plan to ensure they meet the emerging educational needs of students. Del Mar's east campus is currently land locked. The property formerly known as the Corpus Christi Osteopathic Hospital, has had no taxes paid since 1999. A public auction in February 2011 brought no bids. Del Mar is requesting that Nueces County and other taxing entities to forego their taxes and convey their interest in this property to Del Mar College.
In May of 2011, the Nueces County Commissioners Court granted their interest to Del Mar College, but "subject to any tax liens." This has made the deal not favorable to Del Mar College. The request was to forego any taxes. The recommendation is to execute the deed as presented. The City of Corpus Christi and the Hospital District have already approved the deed.
