Submit grant application for FEMA Community Resilience Challenge
Monica Reyes, Grants Department
Discuss and consider submission of a grant application to the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation for the 2012 Community Resilience Innovation Challenge grant program.
The Department of Homeland Security under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the opening of the 2012 Community Resilience Innovation Challenge grant program through the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation. This program, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, aims to identify and support best practices to strengthen community resilience. Activities may include organizing resources, partnerships, and leadership activities among small neighborhood groups, civic or faith based organizations, private sector entities, or education institutions.
The Nueces County Office of Emergency Management has identified this grant program as a catalyst for funding for the next Coastal Bend Hurricane Conference and Evacuation Exercise, similar to the one held in May 2012. The grant program allows for funding for existing initiatives that have already established a level of competence and performance in bringing local residents and leaders together to confront local problems and/or to expand opportunities.
The grant application will request a total of $35,000. If awarded, there is no cash match required.
