Commissioners Court - Regular
Nueces County Juvenile Drug Court Program
Roxana Hunt, Grants Department
Discuss and consider acceptance of grant award from the Governor's Criminal Justice Division for the Nueces County Juvenile Drug Court program (#2530402).
The Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Governor’s Office solicited competitive applications for projects that support eligible drug court programs related to juveniles. The grant provides for professional counseling services and psychological evaluations for youths referred to the Juvenile Drug Court Program. Services to be provided can include at a minimum: identification and placement of appropriate youth; weekly alcohol and drug testing; judicial interaction; access to alcohol and drug related treatment and rehabilitative services; and partnerships with public and community agencies.
On January 18, 2012, the Commissioners Court authorized the submission of a grant application for the Juvenile Drug Court Program. The purpose of Nueces County’s Juvenile Drug Court is to continue to provide counseling, drug and alcohol education, and monitoring of abstinence of the participating juvenile population. Additionally, the program will continue to involve the family members of these offenders to help them improve communication, increase parental control and deal with alcohol and substance abuse issues within the home in a positive and effective manner.
The grant award is $18,900 with a required cash match of $2,100. The cash match has been budgeted in FY2012-2013 Special Revenue Juvenile Probation Fees, department no. 1321. The grant application was submitted through CJD’s eGrants system and would be accepted electronically through eGrants as well.
